Property Description

Sherry FitzGerald Geraghty offer Main Street Garristown to the market, a stone constructed residence in the heart of Garristown village with historical interest, standing on approx. 1.42ha / 1.04acre of beautiful mature, private gardens and paddock, with detached stone garage and double access gates allowing off street parking.

The accommodation is flexible; offering generous reception rooms, a home office that would suit a 4th bedroom, a conservatory to the rear and hot tub room for use on warmer evenings. The private balcony off the master bedroom is a perfect hide away and lounging area and the upstairs storage room is an excellent addition to the house.

A little history: The main residence was constructed approx. 350 years ago and the office/bedroom accommodation was the former Post Office for the village. The plaque on the front commemorates the 1916 rising.
it is told, in the early hours of Thursday 27th April 1916 the 5th (Fingal) Battalion of the Irish Volunteers arrived in Garristown. They were led by Comdt. Thomas Ashe, with Richard Mulcahy as second in command. During Easter week, they had been active in North Co Dublin, disrupting communications and trying to find supplies of arms and ammunition. By the time they reached Garristown, the authorities had been pre-warned and on raiding the RIC barracks on Main St., found only one constable and no weapons. Across from the barracks was Garristown P.O. The volunteers gained entrance to destroy telegraph and telephone equipment. In a rare exception they decided to seize the P.O takings treating them as the spoils of war Richard Mulcahy gave the postmaster a receipt saying that the money was no longer of any value The volunteers billeted nearly on Thursday night and on the Friday engaged in a significant Easter Week military encounter; the Battle of Ashbourne - (source Garristown Historical Society).
