A short history of the Rookery Cheekpoint Co. Waterford.
The Property was built by Cornelious Bolton the younger Circa 1786-1800, when he built the 4 Star Faithlegg House in Faithlegg and also built his rope and textile factory in Bolton (now Cheekpoint)
He declared himself bankrupt in 1819 due to the movement of the Mail Packet Station (which ran from Bolton to Milford Haven) downstream to Dunmore East in 1818.
The Property was then sold onto a Power family of Ballinakill, Waterford. Then through marriage it passed into the Galway family in 1914. The Galway€TM then used the Property at the Rookery to berth and sail their Yacht €oehe Star Of The Sea€¯.
In 1974, the property was sold to a Mr. Heffernan of Cheekpoint. Then for many years he used the property to fish Salmon and Eels. He also fished his Head Weirs from here. The Weirs were built by the Cistercian Monks in 1177. This practise was carried out until his death in 2017
